At 3:00 am on 17th March 2009, Banglamung Police investigator Pol.Maj. Suwit Sawang Mongkol was notified by a rescue team that they had apprehended a man suspected of rape. He and his team rushed to the scene at the entrance of the “Baan Khun Por” apartment in Sukhumvit Road.

At the scene they found Mr. Ngoun Glua Kratok [40] , originally from 114 Moo. 5, Cha wieng, Korn buri, Nakorn Ratchsrima, clad only in shorts, sitting on the ground. His tattooed body was covered in wounds inflicted by angry onlookers.

The victim Miss Sangdeun Pinkeaw, [20] from Kumpangpetch was holding her baby and was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Somporn Somsri [20] residing at 40, Soi Sallee 2 , Salee, Nakorn Sawan, and several other people.

Miss Sangdeun told the police that she had had an argument with her husband at his parents’ house while visiting them in Soi Kao Talo. She said it was getting late but her husband wanted to stay longer. She then left in a huff, taking the baby with her, and started walking the short distance to her home in Soi Nong Krabok.

While walking along the dark railway road she was approached by Mr. Ngoun, who was walking with his dog. He asked her where she was going. She replied to him, but then unexpectedly he pulled out a knife and pointed it at her neck, threatening her not to scream. He grabbed her baby and threw it into a bush. The victim said she begged the man for her and her baby’s lives but he didn’t listen.

She was then dragged for about 500 metres, almost reaching her house. Fortunately her husband and his friends, who were trying to search for her and the baby, had spotted her and managed to come to her rescue. They searched for the baby and found her crying in the bush. The baby had suffered a wound to her chin.

Meanwhile, the assailant had run away but he was found and received a beating. He denied any knowledge of the incident.

On checking Mr. Ngoun’s record police found he had a history of drugs offenses and violence and had previously served jail time. He was taken into custody for further processing.
