PATTAYA – July 22,2015 [PattayaDailyNews]; at Nong Prue municipality office, Act.Sub.Lt.Pramote Tubtim-deputy chief if Nong Prue municipalit- chaired a conference about coping with a drought in local area after the water situation has become more critical.
Mr.Pichet Thamhon-chief district of Bang Lamung- said that Bang Lamung district needs more water because of the farms and tourism. The drought has caused problems to the agriculture sector in the district. As a result, the officers discussed with Pattaya water works to find a solution.
Mr.Sutad Nuchpan-director of Pattaya water works said that he is quite concerned because Pattaya needed about 73 million cubic meters while the 5 reservoirs that supply Pattaya only had 40 million cubic meters. However, Pattaya water works have bought water from East Water and Sattahip water to supply Pattaya but still isn’t enough.
Mr.Sutad added that they had now installed water pumps in order to pump water from Klong Mab Somwai, Huay Yai, Nam Mao and Huay Yai Chin canals to Pattaya but the water was still insufficient. Therefore, they intended to refill the reservoirs using artificial rain.
Ms.Wassana Wongrat-director of the Artificial Rain- revealed that El Nino had caused the severe drought over the country. Also they had been asked by 4 districts in Chonburi consisting of Sattahip, Si Racha, Ban Nueng and Koh Sichang to operate the artificial rain which will increase 0.24 million cubic meter into Bang Phra reservoir, 8.69 million cubic meters into Nong Plalai Nong Pla Lai reservoir and 3.98 million cubic meters into Prasae reservoir.
However, there are still 2 more months to monitor the situation before the rainy season starts.
