Driver Died In Accident Caused By Falling Truck Cargo

A female driver was killed in an accident where a truck cargo container fell onto her car crushing it.

Sriracha, 24 May 2011[Pattaya Daily News]: At 10.30 a.m. Police Lieutenant Chumnan Korgert (Laem Chabang Sriracha Police) was notified of a tow truck and car collision at No. 7, Section 3 at Laem Chabang.

The female driver of the car died instantly, while the tow truck driver escaped the scene, an officer reported.
One of the cargo containers that fell off the 18-wheeled tow truck crushed the Toyota Vios car, an officer added.
The police said initially they attempted lifting the 25 tons cargo container off the car using one crane but was unsuccessful.

However when they set up the second crane, the crumbled car was successfully pulled out from underneath the container, an officer added.

A jaws of life was used to cut open the car in order to extract the body out of the car, the police said adding that this task took over 20 minutes to complete.

 

Based on her identification card, the dead victim was Jurairat Pongpan, 36 years old from Rayong, working at Viking Company Limited, Rayong Head Office.

A witness told the police that the accident occurred when the truck was trying to make a U-turn under the bridge but it overturned.

While the truck driver was trying to correct the turn, one of the container got lose and fell onto the car which was running on the other side of the traffic, the witness continued.

The witness added that the truck driver got a lift from another passing by car and escaped.
The police will track down the driver using the truck registration number and bring him to justice
