On 13 November 2007, at 3am, Pattaya Radio Police received a phone call regarding a drinking party that got out of hand. The men got into a brawl and one of them attempted to get away by climbing over a fence. However, he slipped and his leg was impaled by a pointed steel spike. The incident occurred at Praneet Apartment, located at 4/5 Soi Watboon Kanjanaram 4, Moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene.
The injured man was Mr. Phanphichit Saentaweesuk, (25), from Nakorn Phanom Province. The shirtless victim was clad only in black jeans. He was on the ground, near the fence, crying in pain. Mr. Phanphichit’s injuries resulted from his attempt at climbing over a 2.5 meter high fence, which had steel spikes on the top. He slipped and a steel spike penetrated into his left thigh and caused severe injury. Fortunately, his most intimate areas were not injured. The wound was about 20 centimeters long. Mr. Phanphichit was also bleeding from his head and was writhing in excruciating pain. Officials had to apply tourniquets to his hands and legs in order to stop the flow of blood from his wounds before taking him to Banglamung Hospital for treatment.

Officials examined the steel spikes on top of the fence and discovered that one of the spikes was bent and one was broken. Both spikes had blood stains on them. Witnesses told the police that Mr. Phanphichit had recently rented room No. 4 for two days. On the day of the incident, he and six friends got together for drinks, in his room, after work. As everybody became intoxicated, the gathering became louder and louder and, eventually, deteriorated into a drunken brawl. Mr. Phanphichit ran out of the room to escape the fighting.

In his haste to get away, the inebriated man didn’t take the time to open the gate. Instead, he attempted to climb over the fence, but slipped and was impaled by a spike in his thigh. Although he was severely injured, his drinking buddies took their leave and ran away. Perhaps, drinking and fence climbing don’t mix.
