On 24 August 2007, at 1 AM, Police Colonel Sarayut Sa-Gnuan-Bho-Khai, Banglamung Superintendent, was notified that there was a wild man threatening to commit suicide at a construction site opposite Soi Nong-Pla-Lai 3, Banglamung, Chonburi. A police team and Sawang Boriboon Rescue rushed to investigate.
site for a row of four two story shop-houses, officials encountered Mr. Sarayut Sawangsri, nickname “Tum” (22), from Suphanburi Province, who appeared deranged and possibly under the influence of drugs. He had no shirt on and was on the wrong side of the balcony rail on the second floor. His left hand was holding a pointed 1.5 meter long iron bar pointing at his neck and a there was a disconnected concrete cutter in his right hand. He was threatening to commit suicide.

At the scene, there were many bystanders shouting out for him not to do anything rash, but Mr. Sarayut still seemed intent on harming himself. Mr. Sarayut cried and murmured that he hates Banglamung Patrol Police and that he had been detained earlier in the evening on suspicion of theft of a motorbike. He claimed he was beaten up and injured on his left arm which required ten stitches. When he returned home, he had a fight with his girlfriend and she left him.

Mr. Sarayut realized later that his girlfriend lied to the police so they would arrest and beat him. He was depressed and wanted to die. Police and the rescue team attempted to calm him down for about thirty minutes, but Mr. Sarayut was determined to commit suicide so he could see his mother who had already passed away. Officials enlisted the help of his cousins to get him to stop this self destructive behavior, but they were unsuccessful.

Finally, officials had his cousins talk to Mr. Sarayut, and offer him a drink, while the police and volunteers snuck up the side of the building and managed to rescue him.

Mr. Sarayut’s cousin told police that Mr. Sarayut had been under heavy stress because his mother passed away, his father had a new wife and his girlfriend had just left him. He had no money and just started a new job at a factory in Laem-Chabang, two days ago. He had been drinking heavily before attempting to commit suicide.

After he was rescued, he was still distraught, struggling and crying. He shouted out that he wanted to die in order to see his dead mother. The officials and rescue team took him to police station to calm him down so that the cousin could take him home after he regained his composure.
