Pattaya, 22 December 2010 (PDN): At 10.00pm, on 21st December, Banglamung Police Station Investigator Police Lieutenant Narong Prajim, was notified that a foreign man was threatening to jump from the 6th floor of the Wongamart Garden Beach Resort, in Soi Naklua 16, Pattaya-Naklua road. A police team and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue service were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

On the sixth floor of the twenty-two-storey condominium, they discovered Mr. Peter Hans [62], a German national, standing on the balcony near the fire exit stairs. His Thai wife and friends were holding his arms and trying to calm him down. Mr. Hans was shouting that he didn’t want to go to jail, and that he was bored with Thai people and Thai food. He shouted he wanted to go and stay in hospital and didn’t want to live anymore.

While everybody was trying to calm him down, the police team rushed to take Mr. Hans from behind. However, he continued struggling and shouting, and police had to contact a doctor from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital to give Mr. Hans a tranquilliser to put him to sleep before sending him back to the hospital.

His wife told police that, two days before he had come home from hospital where he had been treated for a congenital disease but on arriving back at the condo he had carried on drinking beer as usual. On the day the incident occurred, he had been drinking heavily and started to suffer from cramp.  He then started to shout at his wife and then went out on the balcony and threatened that he would jump and kill himself in front of her. His wife, her relatives and friends had been trying to calm him down for about 5 hours until it got dark at which point they contacted the police for help.
