Deaths On Roads In Accident With Elephant

A Mitsubishi and a pick-up truck were involved in a fatal accident with a wild elephant, causing the death of 6 people and the elephant.

RAYONG – March 12 ,2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 5.00 am., Pol.Col.Thanes Piamsorrasak, detective officer of Wangjan police station Rayong, was notified that there was an incident involving a car and a wild elephant, causing several deaths, on Banbueng-Klang, Km 71, Moo2, Payubnai, Wangjan. He drove to the scene with Pol.Col.Theerawat Permwattanachaikul, director of the police station, Pol.Maj.Capt, Sakda Tandej, vice suppression director, and 3 police officer of the police security box of Wangjan High Way, and rescuers from the Ruamkatanyu foundation Wangjan.

Upon arrival at the scene, a 4 lane road to Thalang district, they found a 17 year old male elephant, lying hurt, lacerations to his knees, broken front legs, and bleeding from his ears. Nearby there was a crushed white Mitzubichi Pajero, Tor Por 2200, Bangkok, with its roof collapsed. In the front they found the deceased bodies of Mr.Nitinai Panbussakul, a 41 year old engineer, and Miss Shinapa Kasemsakdakorn, a 48 year carrying a Thurakit Bundit university student card. In the rear were a male and female from Singapore, still breathing. The rescuers cut the doors out and sent them to the hospital, but unfortunately the female died.

Further away, was a golden blond four door Toyota Vigo, Kor Chor 1837 Janthaburi. This vehicle had crashed into a white Izusu 6-wheeled truck, 83-7362 Rayong. The Toyota had been propelled by the force of the collision into the concrete storm drain in the middle of the road. The driver had been Mr.Anuchit Pumiruenpol, 42 years old, and a car mechanic. He was crushed to death in the driving seat. There were 3 survivors in the car, Mrs Nantana Boonee, 39 years old, Mr.Thammasas Narksakul, 53 years old, Mrs Siangkhae, 39 years old. These were rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately Mr.Thammasas and Mrs.Siangkhae died of their injuries.

Mr.Singyuttakarn Wiroprom, 27 years old, the driver of the 6-wheeled truck explained the horrifying chain of events. He had been following the Mitsubishi, and the Toyota following closely behind him. The elephant appeared from the roadside, giving no opportunity for the Mitsubishi to avoid the fatal crash. Mr Singyuttakarn was forced to slam on his brakes, which caused the Toyota to drive into his rear, which propelled the Toyota into the storm drain.

The elephant was treated as quickly as possible by veterinarians, and later in the Animal Hospital at Nakorn Pathom. As they suspected, on top of the obvious external injuries, the elephant sustained massive internal damage, and subsequently died.
