PDN reported that on the 3 August 2009 a German man, Mr. Peter Gittel, had been found dead in a house in Central Pattaya. Police have not specified whether it was suicide or if foul play is suspected. The house was found to have been cleared of all its contents. Police presume Mr. Gittel may have committed suicide due to his congenital disease, and when his housemaid found him, she may have tried to open his safety deposit box and failing this, may have called for help in taking it away, along with the rest of the house contents.

At 6.00 pm, on 6 August, Pol. Lt.Col.Pramote Ngam Pradit , Banglamung police, was notified by a fisherman that he had found the safety deposit box thrown in a bush about 100 metres before Toong Glom Tan Man Temple. The police rushed to check.

At the area near the bridge, police found the safety deposit box had been left in the bush. Its door had been burnt out in order to open it. Inside the safe were two bank books in Mr. Peter’s name, and also a leasing contract of building no. 159/49 Moo. 5 Naklua, Banglamung. In the vicinity of the safe, they found two empty jewelry boxes. The safe door was lying on a white cloth 5 metres away. Police kept them as evidence.

Pol. Lt.Col.Pramote initially said the way the criminal had cut into the safe, by using a welding torch, was not a very professional job. However, all the evidence the officials had collected was very useful.

He added that the police team had questioned 3 or 4 women, but no one had descriptions matching those of the suspects as required by the police. The search for the suspects continues.
