David Carradine?S Death Still Shrouded In Mystery

Mystery and speculation still surrounds the death of kung fu icon, David Carradine, especially with the Thai coroner?s statement that his death was "an unusual one. The case is abnormal. His family and close associates are also vehemently adamant that Carradine is highly unlikely to have committed suicide.

David Carradine?s body was repatriated to Los Angeles on Saturday, 6 June, after he was found dead under what have been described as ?bizarre circumstances? at the 5-star Nai Lert Park Hotel, Bangkok, but the results of the autopsy will not be revealed for three weeks. According to what little evidence has already been disclosed, the actor apparently died from a sudden lack of oxygen and his body showed no signs of struggle. The Thai police have initially speculated that the actor?s death might have been due to accidental suffocation or heart failure.

Carradine?s family, however, is reportedly disturbed by the length of time involved and want another autopsy to be performed by forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to ascertain whether another person could have been involved. The family is also dissatisfied with the Thai police?s investigation and wants to involve the FBI as they and close associates consider Carradine could well have been murdered and a blanket of secrecy imposed. A senior official of the Office of the Attorney-General is reported as saying the FBI can observe the Thai police’s investigation, but it must not interfere in the work of the Thai investigators.

Friend and movie producer, David Winters, is also concerned that the Thai police were ostensibly slow in examining CCTV footage, which he speculates could show evidence of another person having been in the room prior to the film star?s death, although police who maintain they have now examined the footage deny this.

As for the paraphernalia found in Carradine?s suite at Nai Lert Park Hotel, apart from the cord which was tied round the actor?s neck and genitals, there was also a phallic shrine in the room. Ironically, in the grounds of the hotel, itself, is one of Bangkok?s most famous phallic shrines. One of Carradine?s former wives, Marina Anderson, had cited the actor?s ?deviant sexual behaviour? in their divorce proceedings.

As regards the possibility of murder, according to attorney Mark Geragos, Carradine may have been killed by a secret society of martial arts assassins, working in the martials-arts underworld, which the actor was attempting to uncover. In this respect there are parallels with the death of Bruce Lee, who it is rumoured might have been assassinated by the Triads, a Chinese secret society.

Police Colonel Somprasong Yentuam of the Bangkok Constabulary is reported to have said “What we’re doing right now is interviewing more witnesses”.
