PATTAYA – March 23, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2.30 p.m.; Pol.Lt.Col. Attharos Khrongrach (detective of Pattaya city police station, Dong Tarn Curve sub-branch, Chonburi Province) was notified that there had been an accident involving a van and a bike with sidecar, resulting in the death of a Westerner. The Incident occurred on Sukhumvit road, in front of Pattaya city post office, Jomtien branch, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi Province. He drove to the scene with the police team and the rescuers of Sawang Boriboon Tharmma Satharn Foundation, Pattaya city.

Mr. Ole Laursen, aged 67, of Danish nationality, was found with many lacerations to his body. The police officers found skid marks measuring approximately 30 metres by the battered navy blue Kawazaki Cheer, license number Khor Lor Ror 802 Chonburi, which they moved to the side of the road to prevent the traffic jam.

Before this, they spray-painted the salient clues on the road. Nearby was a white Toyota public van, which runs the route Bangkok-Mabtaphood-Rayong, license number 10-3166 Rayong. It was parked on the side of the road, with damage to its front left wing and a cracked windshield. The driver, Mr. Phormoa Hasdaeng, aged 58, said that he was returning to Bangkok from Rayong with his passengers.

The Danish man had been driving in the inside left lane, but then suddenly swerved across the front of the van. Mr. Phormoa had no chance to avoid the collision without swerving off into the central flood drain which would have resulted in death to his passengers. When the collision occurred, Mr Laursen was flung from his ride, killing him. After investigating the van driver, the police sent the body of the Dane to Banglamung hospital.

The police will continue to talk to eyewitnesses to ascertain that it was indeed not the fault of the van driver.
