Pattaya, 11 December 2010 (PDN): At 2.00 am Pattaya Police Superintendent,Colonel Nunthawut Suwanla-ong, was notified that a pair of tourists had been injured on the beach in front of Pattaya Police Station Pattaya, after stepping on some broken beer bottles.

A team of police were dispatched to the scene where they found a young Russian couple (names unknown), lying down on the sand being assisted by a Thai man.The Russian man had a deep 6 inch cut on the sole of his left foot, and was bleeding profusely. The woman had also been injured on her right foot. They were sent to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for treatment, where the man required ten stitches for his wound.

Back on the beach, police and several other witnesses had inspected the beach to find a large array of broken beer and whisky bottles. Pattaya City were ordered to clean up the area as soon as possible.

It is general knowledge that tourists and locals alike bring beer and whisky to drink on the beach. Unfortunately, bottles are often disposed of by being thrown into the sea, under the assumption that they would be carried away by the tide, but in fact they are washed back, often broken, onto the beach to be stepped on by unsuspecting tourists on a bare foot stroll. Perhaps Pattaya City should be more vigilant in its maintenance of the resort, especially the removal of unsightly and dangerous trash from its beaches.
