PHUKET- June 3, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; The military’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) announced the cancellation of the curfew in Phuket, Pattaya and Samui around 4.20pm today (June 3), effective immediately.

The announcement was signed by NCPO leader Prayuth Chan-ocha.

The NCPO had earlier said it would consider lifting the curfew selectively in tourist areas.

The NCPO declared the curfew across the country on May 22, hours after a coup was announced.

The curfew was in force between 10pm and 5am, deputy army spokesman Winthai Suwaree announced on national television that evening.

Under the curfew, people throughout the country were prohibited from being on the streets between 10pm and 5am until further notice. Exceptions were made for those travelling overseas or coming from abroad, emergency workers, shift workers, and those who could show an urgent reason for being out and about during the curfew.

All education institutes across Thailand were ordered to close completely from May 23 to 25.

On Tuesday evening, (May 27) the NCPO relaxed the six-day old nationwide curfew by three hours, from midnight to 4am, effective the same night.
