On 10 October 2007, at 2 AM, Banglamung Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakarin Tua-supharb was notified of a fatal motorbike accident. The rider died and the passenger was seriously injured. The accident occurred in front of Chukit Automax, located at 185/1 Moo2, Sukhumvit Road, inbound, adjacent to Sukhawadee Mansion, Naklua. A police team and Sawang Boriboon Rescue rushed to the scene to investigate.
At the scene, a gray Honda Wave motorbike, license number 180, Chonburi, had crashed into the curve of a footpath and a standing sign for Chukit Automax. Mr. Sophon Nareerak(30), the motorbike’s rider, who was from Chaiyaphum Province, and who had a crippled left arm, had crashed into an electric pole and died on impact. Mr. Suwich Sathan (22), who was sitting on the pillion, was severely injured. Officials took him to Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital, where he remains in a coma.

It was determined that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Relatives of the dead man, Mr. Sophon, requested to take the body for a religious ceremony. Relatives of Mr. Suwich, the injured man, visited him in the hospital.

Both men worked at World Gems, Pattaya. Before the accident they had attended a party at their boss’ house in Rong Poh, about five kilometers from where the accident happened.

Police believe that both men were on their way home and were, most likely, intoxicated. They believe that Mr. Sophon, who had a crippled left arm, was probably speeding. When he was confronted with a motorbike, coming from the opposite direction, Mr. Sophon, with only one good arm, probably lost control of the motorbike and crashed onto the footpath. He flew off the bike and crashed into an electric pole, dying on the spot. Mr. Suwich was seriously injured.
