Technological advancement has increased with more options to consider, but be careful to research your option thoroughly before jumping on to the operating table. You have only the one body and the one face. Once any damage is done, it is not easily rectified. All surgery carries a risk or two and while surgery can improve some parts of one persons’ body, it may not necessarily improve yours.

Cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance as it is elective  and is performed to reshape normal body structure in order to improve a patients appearance and confidence, whereas reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body caused by defects, trauma, infection, tumors or disease and is generally covered by insurance. Reconstructive surgery is performed to improve function as well as normal appearance where previous damage has occurred through illness or accident.

There are a number of cosmetic surgery procedures that may be covered by insurance or health costs such as eyelids if the eyelids are drooping enough to obscure a patients’ sight. Improving their self-image with plastic surgery can be both confidence boosting to the person and psychologically happier. We all have a perception of how we may look to others and if we believe some part of us that is visible is not right, we can become very low, self conscious and inhibited unable to partake of social activities.  Surgery promotes a strong and positive self image in allowing an individuals’ self confidence to shine through.

Change resulting from cosmetic surgery, is a permanent thing and so it is important that the person contemplating this big step has a clear understanding of how they may feel once it is done and this has to be thought through before the surgery goes ahead. Always ask question about the surgery, any possible psychological effects and what can or may happen during and after surgery.

Anyone contemplating surgery must be honest with themselves. Why do you want surgery, what will the benefits be, what are your goals for surgery and what do you expect from the surgery? Not everyone is a good candidate for cosmetic surgery despite their condition. An experienced surgeon can usually identify a troubled patient during the consultation and will on occasions decline to operate, while other times they may refer you to a psychologist for counseling in order to  ensure the patients desire for a change in their appearance is not an emotional problem that cannot be  fixed.

The best patients for surgery are those who have a strong self image, and have a physical problem they want to improve, as after surgery they feel good about themselves and maintain a positive outlook. The next best patient who have a physical defect or a flaw caused by nature have usually lost their confidence and self esteem and so after surgery, will take a while to accept the way they look and rebuilding confidence can take time and patience.

There are three types of patients, those who seek celebrity looks in the hope of a celebrity lifestyle, those who want their original looks after a bad accident and those who want to regain their youth. Some patients will be impossible to please no matter what the outcome. Surgeons may ask personal question on your home life, relationships and work to assess your mental state of mind before agreeing to any surgery. Patients need to be stress free without emotional worries.

Any surgery no matter the reason for it can leave a person feeling down and tearful and will take a little time for adjustments. It is essential that there is someone to help you after surgery in both a physical and emotional way. Post op depression usually takes around a week to disperse.

Many people have elected to have cosmetic surgery holidays abroad which can save up to 80% on surgery in ones’ own country such as the US or UK. This is all very well, but be sure to choose well. Cheap can work out to be expensive as, if anything should go wrong you may have to return to the country of surgery or pay through the nose for treatment in your own country to rectify the problem and trust me, they don’t go out of their way to help put things right.  UK will give only the minimal treatment when things go wrong, refusing to examine you or refer you to a hospital until you are dragging  yourself through the door on your hands and knees with the onset of septicemia.

However, do not let this put you off. There are many first class hospitals abroad that offer excellent packages such as here in Pattaya, but shop around as some of the larger Pattaya hospitals are far more expensive than the clinics or smaller establishments who use the same surgeons. There may be some critics out there with not very complimentary comments. Ignore these and prepare yourself with an answer such as how you wanted this and you are happy with the results.
