Corrupted Monks Lead To Big Bust Of Drug Ring

The recent arrest of a monk caught with 25 amphetamine pills at an Amphur Sattahip temple led police to crack a major drug dealing network masterminded by a convict in Chonburi prison. Seven more area drug dealers were arrested. Altogether, police arrested a dozen people and seized 1,070 amphetamine pills.

Suwicharn Yankittikul, Deputy Commander; Pol. Col. Supphathee Boonkrong, Deputy Commander; Mr. Pawat Lertmookda, Sattahip Sheriff; Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station; Pol. Lt. Col. Niphon Pomsanarm, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Saengpring, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Thapanat Chayarnpat, Inspector; and the detection police team.

Pol. Col. Suwicharn Yankittikul condemned the gang of drug dealers for trying to corrupt the religions and country of Thailand.

The case began with the arrest of a recently ordained monk Puripanyo or Mr. Supphachai Dechparn, 28, who was caught buying the 25 amphetamine pills in a police stakeout. Three other monks at the temple were also arrested after their urine tested positive for drugs.

The police then made follow-up investigations and arrested seven more amphetamine dealers operating out of a rental house near the temple. The dealers had mainly targeted temple monks and local teenagers for customers.

The seven suspect dealers caught with amphetamine tablets are: Mr. Panjana or Golf Deeim, age 24, (990 tablets); Mr. Kraisorn Chonhai, age 24, (40 tablets); Mr. Wuthisak or Po Boontra, age 19, (5 tablets); Mr. Atthaphol or Bas Meewong, age 20, (5 tablets); Mr. Chaowalit or Ngok Kaewlek, age 30, (2 tablets); Mr. Artit or Bank Saebae, age 31, (2 tablets); and Mr. Manoch or Took Poesuwan, age 38, (1 tablet).

The suspects were all subordinates in the a drug network set up and controlled by Mr. Saichol or M Boonake, age 22, a prisoner in Chonburi province.

Mr. Saichol has been in prison since November 18, 2010, when he was arrested by Sattahip police for drug dealing. Police seized 1,865 amphetamine tablets and two guns in his possession.

Police have collected the latest evidence to prosecute Mr. Saichol for being the instigator of the drug selling network near the Sattahip temple.


Sattahip Monks Busted For Drugs

A recently ordained monk at a prominent Sattahip temple was arrested for selling amphetamine pills to fellow monks. Police arrested three other monks testing positive for drugs. All were removed from the monkhood and will be prosecuted.
