PATTAYA – March 3, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1 a.m., the arrest of a female for drug possession was made at a police checkpoint by Pol. Sub. Lt. Suriya Kheawlalim, Deputy Inspector, Nong Preu police station, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province; together with the police team and volunteer police of Khao Talo sentry box.

The suspect was identified as Ms. Wachiyaporn or Noon Phromchart, age 21, from Tambon Kamalasai, Amphur Kamalasai, Kalasin province.

Police seized the evidence of dried ganja inside 80 small clear plastic bags. The bags were bundled 10 bags per pack, with a total of 8 packs. Police also seized the suspect’s motorbike, a white Honda Wave 125, license number JOR LOR WOR-21 Chonburi. The police restrained her to investigate and prosecute at the police station.

The suspect was caught after the police team and volunteer police set up the check point at Soi Nong Krabok crossing with the railway Moo 11 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province. The police checkpoint was set up to inspect and search for illegal items according to an order issued by police superiors, said Pol. Sub. Lt. Suriya Kheawlalim, Deputy Inspector of Nong Preu police station.

The police spokesman said the suspect had driven her motorbike past the checkpoint, so police stopped her and asked to search for illegal items. Officers found the ganja hidden in a bag inside her long sleeved jacket, so she was arrested.

During questioning, Ms. Wachiyaporn claimed that the ganja did not really belong to her, and she had been hired by a ganja dealer whose name she did not know. The dealer had made the phone call to her earlier that day, instructing Ms. Wachiyaporn to retrieve the ganja that someone had left in the bushes on the side of the street in the middle of Soi Nong Krabok.

The dealer then told her to deliver the ganja to customers in Pattaya and nearby areas. He said for her to deliver the ganja by leaving it at a tree on the side of Pattaya beach, nearby Central Festival Pattaya Beach department store. Then another agent will retrieve the ganja to sell to customers in Pattaya, at a price of 200-500 THB per bag.

Ms. Wachiyaporn told officers that she is only a delivery driver who was hired to leave the ganja at various spots around Pattaya. After finishing her deliveries, she would get paid for 10,000 THB per time, with the dealer transferring money into her bank account. She said she had delivered drugs on four separate times, and used the money to help pay her family expenses. She only delivered the ganja and never consumed or sold it herself.

However, the police still did not believe Ms. Wachiyaporn’s claim that she was only the delivery girl of ganja. The police suspect she is a dealer selling the ganja, and belongs to a gang operating a big drug network in the area.

Initially, the police charged her in an accusation of illegal possession of a Type 5 drug (ganja), and sent her to be prosecuted according to the law. Police will investigate her further to follow up and arrest the rest of her friends in the same gang selling ganja.
