PATTAYA – March 23, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 5:30 a.m., 60 underage minors were detained by police making a sweep of pubs in the Balihai pier area. The sweep was conducted by Pol. Col. Aphichai Tiayakul, investigation officer, together with officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The sweep was conducted after a police investigation discovered that entertainment centers at Bali Hai were always admitting teenagers under 18 as customers. Officers who checked the entertainment centers found many customers were groups of teenagers.

So the officers asked to inspect their identity cards. Police discovered more than 60 male and female teenagers under 18 years old. Officers detained a total of 20 male and 40 female teenagers. The officers took the teens to the Pattaya police station to record their personal information for their files.

Initially, the officers blamed the teenagers for breaking curfew laws and also illegally entering adult venues. In this instance, police could not restrain the owners or the people who took care of the entertainment center to prosecute according to the law.

The officers could only restrain the teenagers and hold them responsible for breaking laws regarding juveniles. Their parents were then contacted to pick them up and take them back home.
