Bangkok, the 3rd of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: Sandra Gregory age 44, of Yorkshire in the United Kingdom has been refused entry into the Kingdom of Thailand despite having acquired a valid visa from the Royal Thai Consulate in the UK. She has been refused entry due to an incident in 1993 when she was arrested and imprisoned for trafficking drugs into the Kingdom.

Sandra Gregory was convicted of attempting to traffic 86.9 grams of the class-1 drug heroin into Thailand in 1993. She had concealed the drugs inside a condom which she had hidden inside her body. She was arrested and subsequently sentenced to death, which was later reduced on appeal to 25 years imprisonment due to her admittance of guilt. Miss Gregory was given a Royal Pardon in 2000 after having spent four-and-a-half years in the notorious Klong Prem Prison in Bangkok, where she was living in a cell with up to 80 other women. She was later transferred to a jail in Kent, Yorkshire.

Miss Gregory has explained to friends via text messages that she had now not eaten or slept for several days and that she expected to be deported within 48 hours. A friend of Miss Gregory’s, Miss Susan May has explained that her friend had returned to Thailand to tie up loose ends. Also stating that she  loves the country despite everything that happened, and she deeply regretted what she did. It is believed that Miss Gregory was also returning to visit some friends that she had made whilst in Klong Prem Prison.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been unable to confirm any of the details surrounding Sandra Gregory’s most recent arrest.
