Pattaya, the 20th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 7:00pm on Thursday, Police Major Kriengkrai Buakla (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified by the Banglamung Hospital that a young Burmese man had died following an accident at the Hilton Hotel construction site, above Central Festival shopping center on Pattaya’s Beach Road. A team of officers was immediately dispatched to the hospital to investigate the incident further.

Hospital staff advised that the man, Mr. Mai San [22] a Burmese national, had died enroute to the hospital after an accident at the Hilton Hotel construction site in Central Pattaya. Doctors informed police the Mr. San’s chest and rib cage had been severely crushed in the accident, which is thought to have been the cause of death. The deceased’s body has now been sent for autopsy at the Forensic Science Institute.

Further investigations revealed that Mr. San had been legally working as a contractor for Amnatchaikit Interior Ltd, who had been contracted to the construction of the 5-star Hilton Hotel which is situated above the Central Festival shopping center along Pattaya Beach Road.

Several co-workers of the deceased revealed that Mr. San’s had been moving a large glass panel onto the construction cradle/lift when it fell on top of him, crushing his chest. Rushing to his aid, several co-workers lifted the glass panel off of Mr. San, who had been knocked unconscious, before transporting him to the hospital.

At present police speculate that poor construction practices may have been responsible for Mr. San’s death, however investigations are still in progress.
