Pattaya, the 23rd of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 4:30am on Sunday, police Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin (Pattaya Police Deputy Superintendant) was notified of a serious motorbike accident involving a foreigner whilst he was on patrol in the Pratamnak Hill area. Responding to the call, Lt. Col. Thongin and a team of officers immediately went to the scene to investigate further and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were called to assist in transporting the injured to hospital.

At the scene, on the pavement underneath the South Pattaya overpass leading to the Bali Hai pier, police discovered the severely injured body of Mr. John Alexander Delgado [22] from Colombia. Mr. Delgado and his Thai girlfriend Miss Athitaya Kunsuwan [33] had been involved in a high-speed motorbike accident on the overhead road before falling to the ground below.

Medical examinations of the pair revealed that Mr. Delgado had suffered a fractured skull and suspected broken neck in the accident. His Thai girlfriend, Miss Kunsuwan, was lucky to have remained relatively uninjured in the accident although she had suffered a severe confusion in the terrifying incident. Both Mr. Delgado and Miss Kunsuwan were immediately transported to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital after they had been stabilised at the scene by rescue personnel.

Investigations on the overpass uncovered the severely damaged Kawasaki ER6N 650 motorbike which the pair had been travelling on at the time of the accident. The bike had suffered major damage to the front and left side, whilst a significant indentation and scratch was evident on the overpasses side railing and concrete wall. Police have taken photographs of the accident scene for evidence whilst the bike is thought to have been returned to the owner for repairs.

Police interrogated a witness to the accident who stated that the pair had been travelling fast along the Bali Hai overpass when they seemingly lost control, on a notoriously accident ridden bend. The bike reportedly slammed into the side wall of the overpass which caused both Mr. Delgado and Miss Kunsuwan to be ejected over the railing, falling approximately 5-6 meters before landing on the pavement below.

Officers will continue with their investigations once Mr. Delgado is in a suitable condition to answer various questions in relation to the accident.
