Clothing Vendor Caught With GunA teenage male clothing vendor who was on his way out with friends was stopped by police and searched after acting suspiciously. The police found a 9mm pistol which he claimed was for self defence.
PATTAYA – June 22,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.00 a.m., Pol.Maj. Saranyaphong Maithongkulthorn (Inspector of Pattaya city police station, Chon Buri Province), Pol.Capt. Winai Sanitphan (Deputy Inspector) and volunteer police together arrested a Mr Krissana Kookkhunthod, aged 23, who was a clothing vendor. He was arrested with a 9 mm pistol (Rama brand), 5 bullets and a gun bag. He was arrested in front of Pueak Mai shop, Pattaya 3rd road.
Pol.Maj. Saranyaphong revealed that he had mobilized police teams to inspect and prevent crimes in the area of Amphur Banglamung when they found a suspicious male teenager who was riding a modified motorbike. The police then stopped him and asked to search him. Upon searching him they found that he was carrying a 9 mm pistol with ammunition around his waist. Therefore, the police arrested him and seized the gun for evidence before sending him to the inquiry official to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
Mr. Krissana (a defendant) claimed that the gun had a gun license and it belonged to his father. He claimed that he was carrying the gun for self-defence because where he lives the roads are dark and many crimes have taken place there.
