Starting in the kitchen is usually the best move, following through to the dining then living area as the dining area will play a major role in the seating layout. A small table called a counter height table or bistro table will be large enough for a studio. This can be in metal or wood with glass or solid top. The stools can be wood or metal framed with padded or unpadded seats. A round table would be the most versatile as it allows space to walk around without bumping into the corners.  A square table would be ideal if you want it up against the wall allowing more space in the room.

Moving into the seating area a good quality futon bed would be ideal, the color and shape depends on personal taste and décor. If planning carefully, a small armchair should fit in nicely or utilizing your dinning chairs for extra visitors will leave you more space. A coffee table to fit in with the dining table and chairs is next. The two need to compliment each other as they are both in the one room.

If furnishing a one bedroom apartment, you will find this to be easier as your bedroom furniture will be kept separate allowing extra space in the lounge. Even with a one bedroom apartment, it is still ideal to purchase the small bistro style dining table and chairs, as this will leave more space for an extra armchair without a cluttered look or you could have a larger coffee table.

Wall decorations and ornaments should be kept to a minimum as too much clutter will make the room look smaller than it actually is.
A rug in the sitting area under the coffee table can give the room a cozy touch, with one floor lamp and one table lamp giving adequate lighting.

These are your main furnishings in the room that makes your living space comfortable. TV’s and stereo’s can be mounted to the wall to save on floor space and is all a matter of requirements. Vases and cushions should be added slowly so as not to over do the clutter.
