Chonburi Started to Cerebrate the Songkran 2011

After giving the alms to monks and pouring some scented water to them as well as to the Buddha Image as for the good beginning of new year, participate in the Kong Khao ceremony. Pouring some scented water to elders and ask for their blessing for the auspicious life, create a sand pagoda, enjoy folk play and entertainment and cheer up in the event of carrying a lady in which a male will ask for permission from a lady and carry her to the sea and bring her back.

Chonburi, 12 April 2011 [Pattaya Daily News] : On the 12th April 2011,Mr. Damrong Petra, the mayor of Koh Sichang (Sriracha, Chonburi) revealed that on this Songkran occasion, city will host the event “Rice Piling and Let’s carry her to the sea ” which is held annually. This event is to preserve the unique of Koh Sichang. It is held since King Rama V until nowadays. Normally, Si Chang people do not splash water on Songkran day because of the lack of freshwater.

1. Ko Sichang Songkran Festival
Date: 13 – 18 April, 2011
Venue: at Ko Sichang and Ko Khamyai (1 km. from Ko Sichang), Chon Buri

Koh Sichang is about to hosts its traditional events on 18 April including the famous “Let’s carry You to the Beach”, local playings and other Thai traditions.

Let’s carry her to the sea (or Aum Sao Long Nam in Thai) is held on 18 April at Koh Kham Yai which is located in the North of Koh Si Chang (far fom Koh Sichang 1 kilometer). This year the event starts from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It takes about 45 minutes by boat from Koh Loi Pier. (Sriracha) There will be other events such as food offerings to Bhuddhist monks, water-pouring ceremony to ask a blessing from a respected elder, pagoda sand piling, tug-of-war, Chonburi’s boxing and local playings.

As most of Si Chang people are fishermen, Song Kran holiday is the time that they do not have to work. They spend time with families. The youngers who work in other provinces will return home and pay respect to the elderly.

The elderly will also be carried by the young to the beach. It is understandable that the touch is not offended since it is a part of the tradition.

Many foreigners come to this event. They will spend a night at Koh Si Chang and attend this event. Due to its uniqueness, it is famous all over the world. More tourists come visit

2. Wan Lai Bang Saen Songkran Festival
Date: 16-17 April, 2011
Venue: along Bang Saen Beach, Amphoe Mueang, Chon Buri

Another chance for you to get the cooling splash after 15 April, after Buddhist ceremony in the morning, it’s time to feel the freshness along the beach as well as create a sand pagoda and enjoy various kinds of folk plays.


3. Hae Phaya Yom Procession and Songkran Bangphra Festival
Date: 17-18 April, 2011
Venue: Bangphra Beach, Si Racha, Chon Buri

Get wet on Bangphra Beach, enjoy folk plays, entertainment, and beautiful parade throughtout the event.



4. Wanlai Pattaya – Na Klue Festival
Date: 18-19 April 2011
Venue: at Lan Pho Public Park, Na Klue, Chon Buri

Offering alms to monks, pour some Thai scented water on the Buddha image and elders, enjoy folk plays, entertainment, and get a refreshing fun splashing water on each other along the beach.


5. Songkran Si Maha Racha and Kong Khao Festival

Date: 19-21 April 2011
Venue:  at Ko loi Public Park, Si Racha, Chon Buri

Enjoy Songkran Si Maha Racha on 17 April, and participate in Kong Khao Festival – the ritual to thank Mae Po Sop, the Goddess of Rice, enjoy folk plays and entertainments.
