Chonburi Special Olympics Games Opens

Minister of Tourism and Sports and Governor Welcomes the Event! The National sports day of the disabled athletes opens impressing the audience of thousands in attendance and Officials in the stadium.

Pattaya, 23rd January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: Mr. Chumpon Silapacha, Minister of Toursim and Sports, presided over the opening event of the national disabled sports competition, for the 29th time, in Chonburi, at the Indoors Athletics Center Pattaya, with Mr. Wichit Chatiphaisi, Governor of Chonburi welcoming the event.

Chonuburi opens the national sports comptetition for disabled for the 29th time, with the great ‘ Chonburi games’ . The audience counting over tens of thousands of people at the opening event began with 3 successful performances, followed by the raising of the Thai flag. Mr. Konkapan Junkasem Sports Authority of Thailand followed with a speech about National Sport Tournaments, including health sustainability and support, of the general public being an important mission of the Sports Authority of Thailand. He also said how sports can improve and strengthen solidarity of families and the community and contribute to an improving lifestyle, using time wisely to do things such as exercise, not dealing with intoxication or drugs, to have a healthier body and soul. After that, the Governer of Chonburi Mr. Wichit Chatiphaisi announced that the 29th sports competition for the disabled will be held from the 23rd to the 27th January 2011. He also announced that the event will be representing the power of intention, commitment, love, unity and reconciliation of the people of Chonburi, to improve the quality of true sporting excellence in Chonburi.

After that Mr. Chumpon Silapacha, Mister of Tourism and Sports Thailand, said, the promotion to develop national sports in Thailand is the main purpose of his Authority, especially the improvement and standard of every player of any kind, to stay in line with economic and social changes. Special Olympic Athletes are being strongly encouraged, to develop themselves physically, and be an athlete from the heart, having the will and responsibility to make the country proud and happy. We welcome it!

The senior athlete of Chonburi pledged to all the other athletes, with decisions to compete. Then came the highlight of the event, the lighting of the special Olympic torch, which was lit by Mr. Sontaya Khunpluem, from the Chonburi Sports Association, and passed to a disabled athlete Mrs. Wanna Ladee, who is missing her right leg below her knee, caused, by accident, who then passed it to Mr Vonvith Gaewkwam, disabled swimmer, disability of polio, caused by not receiving a polio vaccination, then Mrs. Naimaa Nuaengjamnong, global athlete, disability misty eyes, cause, congenital failure, and lastly Mr.Narong Kaesanan, weight lifter. We stand proud of this event!

The torch was simply but elegantly lit and all welcomed in the special Olympics to Chonburi again!
