Chonburi Cops Catch Up To RacingTeen Motorbikers

A total of 22 motorbikers were arrested for racing illegally on the street. More than 70 police officers were hiding along the new bridge in Amphur Meuang, Chonburi, to nab the speeders. Of the arrested racers,18 were under the age of 17, and the youngest was 10 years old.

CHONBURI – March 3, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1:30 a.m., a total of 22 teens and young adults were arrested for illegally racing motorbikes on the main road. Chonburi police rushed to solve the problem of gangs of teenage motorbikers using the main road to compete in high-speed races, which made trouble and annoyed local residents.

More than 70 police officers with the volunteer police staked out hiding places along the new bridge in Amphur Meuang, Chonburi province. Officers arrested a total of 27 motorbike riders. About 18 of the arrested motorbikers were under age 18, and the youngest was 10 years old.

The police restrained all the suspects with their motorbikes, and took them to Chonburi police station to prosecute according to the law. The suspects were charged with driving motorbikes without regards to the safety of the public, driving motorbikes without driving licenses, and illegally modifying the motorbikes.

Police contacted the parents to come to the police station, to acknowledge charges regarding the supervision of minor children. Under Act 26 of protecting the welfare of children, parents of minors may be charged with consenting to let their children behave inappropriately.
