Chinese Tourists Escape With One Carat Diamond In Pattaya Shopping Mall

Pattaya, August 3 [PDN]: On 31st July 2009, Two Chinese tourists tricked their way out of a department store situated in a Central Beach Pattaya shopping mall with a one Carat diamond ring, costing 230.000 baht, but unknown to them, their actions were recorded on a CCTV.

The two men entered the shop at 1.00pm, one wearing a black shirt and carrying a brown shoulder bag, the other, a long sleeved white shirt, walked into the store, requesting to buy a diamond ring. After viewing a selection, they both agreed on a one Carat diamond ring set in white gold, costing 230.000 baht. The men, insisted that the ring was gift wrapped and while the owner, Ms. Siriporn BangRakkit turned to pick up the necessaries in order to wrap the ring, the man in the black shirt snatched the ring, leaving Ms. Siriporon to wrap an empty box.

After the box was wrapped, the men handed Ms Siriporn a credit card, Ms. Siriporn informed them that she did not accept this form of payment.

The men told her they would go to the ATM and left the empty box along with 1000baht deposit.

After waiting approximately 20 minutes, Ms Siriporn became suspicious and opened the box finding the ring missing. Ms Siriporn reported the incident to the Pattaya Police Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan.

The following day,1st August, Ms. Siriporn (60) residing at 357/24, Pinsiri Village, Klonggoom, Bangkok, the owner of the jewellery store, took a CCTV footage to the media showing the two men in action.

Ms. Siriporn announced that she is offering 50.000 baht reward for any one with information leading to the arrest of the men and the recovery of the ring. She also warned other jewelry stores not to trust foreign tourist.
