Chinese cultural celebrations for The New Year in Pattaya

Previously, when a similar event was staged, raising 10 million Baht, it generated a great deal of interest among tourists, foreign residents and locals, so the organizers are hoping for a renewal of interest. The proposal will have a knock-on effect, which will benefit local shopkeepers, storekeepers and other commercially involved individuals as well as generating much needed revenue for the city and Chinese community.

Mr. Soonthorn Kungsirikul, the Assistant Director of the Pattaya Walking Street Action Committee, expressed his hope that the funds will double those of the previous Chinese New Year Celebrations. This especially so as supplications will be made to the Chinese god of Good Luck, Chai Tzing Eaer.

This will be the largest and most spectacular event ever to be held in Thailand. The various events will include an eating competition, singers, Chinese drama from Beijing, Chinese dancing, fireworks and Chinese mask rituals. The events will be held from the 16th to the 18th of February to co-incide with the Chinese New Year Celebrations.
