PATTAYA – August 2, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 1:15 a.m., Pol. Capt. Thitiwat Boonorn, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province, was notified of a fatal shooting on Soi Sunee. He rushed to the scene with Pol. Lt. Col. Kierttisak Sathongoy, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Anak Prasongsuk; Pol. Maj. Kovit Sawatmongkol, Inspector; and the detective police team.

The shooting occurred within the fenced-in area of Boutique 1 Hotel, opposite to a Family Mart shop on Soi Sunee, south Pattaya, Moo 10 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Police found the body of an unidentified man, about 30, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, jeans and black leather shoes. The corpse was face up on the pool of blood on a concrete shelf. Three gunshot wounds were found on his shoulder and on his left breast that police assumed had pierced his heart. Police searched his body and did not find any ID, only 40 THB and a SIM mobile phone card

A witness told police the dead man was involved with a gang of drug addict ruffians in Soi Sunee. The head of the gang is a Mr. Rae, who is always in the soi with his gang members. The death occurred during a fight with about three or four men from a rival gang, who fired the fatal shots before escaping on motorbikes.

However, the people living on soi Sunee didn’t dare to give much information about the gang to the police because they are afraid them. After the initial investigation, the police sent the corpse to have an autopsy performed.

Later, the father of the slain man, Mr. Pranom Kerdthong, 73, came to see the police. He told them his son is Mr. Nathee Kerdthong or “Nui,” age 34, address 8 Moo 9 Tambon Huay Yai, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

He said his son was a CD seller at the Tambon Huay Yai market and the Baan Amphur market. On the day of the shooting, Mr. Pranon’s son said he was coming to Pattaya to buy CDs to sell. His son left home around 9 p.m. and Mr. Pranon had no idea that his son would be later shot to death. When he heard the shocking news, he hurried to see the police to confirm that the victim was his son.

Mr. Pranon said his son liked to hang out with friends in the soi Sunee gang of drug addicts. He used to warn his son not to get involved with the gang. But his son disregarded his warnings.

Initially, police are assuming that the shooting might have resulted from a quarrel with the rival gang involving drugs or a personal dispute. But police still are unsure of the events leading up to the killing.

However, a police detective revealed that he knows which rival gang was involved in the shooting, and is following up to arrest them soon.
