The seven suspects were identified as Mr. Wonsakorn Pooyim, 21 years old; Mr. Sakda Sanpet, 20 years old; Mr. Thawatchai Uppapong, 19 years old; Mr. Suttichai Silaparawat, or Tam, 21 years old; Mr. Na, 16 years old; Mr. Toey 17 years old; and Mr. Tuch, 16 years old.

After the announcement of the arrest, the accused were brought back to the crime scene to do the re-enactment. However, 20 of the injured victim’s relatives and friends came to watch, and they cursed and flamed the bikers. The 10 police officers who were present tried to protect the suspects as much as they could from the angry crowd.

But the suspects could not finish the re-enactment after one of the onlookers punched the face of one of the bikers, and chaos erupted. The violence was short-lived, however, as police controlled both sides. Then the police quickly ushered the bikers from the scene.

When the suspects were returned to the police station, they were kept in isolation in a room, and no one was allowed to visit. Pol. Lt. Col. Nipon Pomsanam, vice director of detective division, described the sequence of events of the violent beating.

On December 15 at 5 a.m., Mr. Wongsakorn, the leader of the young motorbikers, was riding with his followers on Sukhumvit Road, Sattahip inbound, near Thanamkiat Printing on moo 5, Sattahip.

Then they saw two men on a motorbike, identified as Mr. Kritsada, and Mr. Marut Utoksin, 24 years old, a staff mechanic in Sattahip municipality. When the pack of motorbikers saw Mr. Marut. they rode in front of the motorbike to cut him off, and told him to stop riding. Then the motorbikers pulled Mr. Marut off the bike and began beating him.

Mr. Kritsada used the chaos to escape, but Mr. Marut was trapped by his attackers. The CCTV footage later showed that Mr. Marut was beaten by heavy sticks and helmets for more than 10 minutes, until he nearly died. But a good citizen came by who saw him, and immediately took Mr. Marut to Queen Sirikit hospital, where he remains in a coma.

The police obtained clear evidence of the beating from the CCTV at Thanamkiat Printing. As a result, they were able to arrest the 7 bikers. After their arrests, the bikers claimed that they had stomped Mr. Marut because they got furious after Mr. Marut made loud noises from his engine to annoy them.

The police initially charged all the young bikers with attempted murder.
