According to the report, the CAT Board has resolved that the company’s 3G contract with True Corp is against the NBTC Act. CAT Chief Executive Officer Kittisak Sriprasert explained that the deliberation process mainly focused on three areas, which are the NBTC Act, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry’s policy and the commercial basis for CAT’s future business. However, he assured that CAT will handle the case carefully as the company could be sued by True if it decides to terminate the contract.

Meanwhile, senior official of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Mr. Methee Krongkaew, said the initial ruling on the case will be made by the commission on April 5 before it is finalized by the full assembly next week.

ICT Minister Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap cited CAT as saying that the contract has violated the law in 5 areas. CAT’s conclusion on the case is required to be submitted to the ICT Ministry within the next 15 days.

As solutions to the problem, the Minister suggested that True delay its 3G service to mobile phone users or have the contract terminated. Whatever the decision may be, he stressed that CAT must be able to continue to operate commercially in the future.
