Careless Crane Driver Hits High Voltage Power Cables In Pattaya

A careless crane driver accidentally hit some high voltage cables which caused his crane to set on fire in Pattaya.

PATTAYA – February 9,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2.30 p.m., Pol.Lt.Col. Pawatchai Soodsakhon (Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya city police station, Chon Buri province) was notified that there was a ten-wheeled truck that loaded carrying a crane was on fire. The incident occurred on the Sukhumvit Road, Pattaya city, opposite to Index department store, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chon Buri province, so he rushed to inspect at scene together with officers of the Fire and Rescue Department of Pattaya City and rescuers of Sawang Boriboon Tharmma Sathan Rescue Foundation with fire trucks.

An the scene the officers found a white Mitsubishi Kuzo crane truck, red license plate 23931, and its 2 rear wheels were on fire. It took the fire brigade approximately 30 minutes to bring it under control but the truck had been severely damaged.

Upon investigating Mr. Rarat Rathawong, aged 47, the truck driver he told the police that he was an employee of a construction company and before the incident occurred he had used the crane to lift a barrier bar in order to block the road when suddenly the crane hit some high voltage power cables which caused the crane to set on fire severely damaging it. Luckily the driver was wearing rubber gloves which prevented him from being electrocuted.
