Cardiovascular check-up

Coronary artery disease is the most common cause of sudden death. This disease is caused by the buildup and eventual blockage in the coronary arteries that nourish the heart. A severe spasm can cause a heart attack, which may can result in sudden death.

The danger of this disease is that there may be no previous symptoms or warning signs. So, having a medical check-up is one of the best way to prevent you from having coronary artery disease – before it’s too late to treat.

The diagnosis of cardiovascular disease can be divided in two methods : external and internal checks. Here are the external checking methods in a cardiovascular medical check-up.

Electrocardiogram (EKG) : The doctor will use the EKG medical equipment to measure the electric currents in the heart and report this in graphical form. The doctor will use this report in the cardiovascular analysis, and it is the primary information needed before deciding on further tests.

Exercise stress test (EST) : This test checks the functioning of the heart, which will be measured by recording the heart’s electrical status while the patient is walking on the treadmill or riding a bicycle. This method will show, while the heart is working hard and the cardiac muscle needs more oxygen, if there are any signs of coronary artery disease or not. It can also show the rhythm of the heart beat and can indicate ventricular fibrillation, for example. This type of check-up will also give an explanation of the cause of chest pains.

Echocardiography (ECHO) : The heart and the blood vessels will be measured by reflection of the echo waves. The measurement will be reported in the form of 2-D sheet showing the heart and its vessels. This method is painless and not dangerous in any way. Results are instantaneous and show the functional efficiency and structure of the heart such as the size of the four heart chambers, the condition of the heart valves and walls, and how well they fill and empty.

64-Slice CT : The latest medical technology used in cardiovascular checking will measure the heart’s capacity by the modulating retrospective cardiac gating technique. This state of the art check will give an accurate and immediate result. The x-ray pictures from this method provide an accurate indication of any cardiac pathology. The result is very close to that obtained by the cardiac catheterizing method. The patients do not have to stay in the hospital to have this 64-Slice CT check. In addition, this check also shows the calcium in the deposits on the heart walls, including the cardiac muscle function and the status of the pericardium (the sac around the heart). All of these are important information for diagnosis of heart disease.

Coronary artery disease is caused by the gradual buildup of fat on the inside of the blood vessels. This blockage causes the lack of blood needed for nourishing the heart muscle. Additionally, if the fatty obstruction happens ion the main blood vessels of the heart, this will result in ischemic heart disease. The selection of the most appropriate medical check-up type for you, will be recommended by the doctor.
