Moscow, the 19th of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Button, speaking from Moscow, endorsed the current proposal by the Bavaria Moscow City Racing (BMCR) agency to stage a Formula One race in the Russian capital. “It would be a good idea (to have a Grand Prix here) as I definitely want to come back.”

Appearing at the Bavaria Moscow City Racing Motor Show with fellow Formula One driver and Russian national Vitaly Petrov, Button exclaimed, “This is not a day of work, it’s a day of enjoyment,” after taking a few laps around the infamous Kremlin building.

“I’ve always wanted to visit Moscow. I haven’t seen much of the city as we only arrived two days ago,” said Button.

Currently in negotiations with commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone, Russian officials hope to bring a race to the Russian capital as early as the 2012 championships. “We’re aiming to have the race here as early as 2012. The race contract is not done yet but we’re getting very close,” stated BMCR general director Derk Sauer.

Mr. Sauer revealed that Moscow officials had enlisted the aid of renowned German circuit designer Hermann Tilke to build the anticipated street track.  “It would be just like Monaco, a race around the city centre with the Kremlin in the background,” Sauer said.

Although Formula One is not traditionally popular with the Russian public, the staging of the Bavaria Moscow City Racing Motor Show in the capital three years running has successfully helped to increase interest in the world’s highest-profile motor racing championship.
