PATTAYA – January 29, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 10:30 p.m., a report of a thief being caught after snatching a handbag was received by Pol. Capt. Vitsanu Chaisuwan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. The incident occurred in front of a SCB bank on second Pattaya road, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung.

The thief was being detained in front of the Montien hotel, about 500 meters from where the crime had occurred. At the scene, police found bystanders and security officers restraining the thief. Police recovered a stolen brown handbag and seized the bicycle used by the thief.

Then the officers took the thief back to the incident point to find the victim. They found the still-frightened victim, who was crying in shock and fear. She was identified as Mrs. Sujittra Pengthep, age 50. She told police that she had been walking on the road, when the suspect riding on his bicycle jerked her handbag away.

The thief then tried to drag her to the forest beside the wall of the bank, and tried to rape her by using the handle of a broomstick to press against her neck. So she cried to ask for assistance, until passersby heard the calls for help and rushed to assist her. The thief rushed to get on his bicycle to escape, but was detained by the onlookers who caught him.

During questioning, the troublemaker spoke in a foreign accent, and said his name was “Mr. Jeme,” and was from Mae Sord. He also told police he is 12 years old. But the police were suspicious of his answers, and believe the suspect is a Burmese who smuggled illegally into Thailand.

The police restrained him with the evidence, and sent him to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.
