Burglar Bags 200,000 THB Booty Central Pattaya

An unpleasant shock awaited an Englishman out on the town when he returned in the early hours to find his room ransacked and valuables worth 200, 000 THB, carefully concealed in his luggage, to have been stolen.

Pattaya 2nd January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News] At approximately 03.00 Police Lieutenant Nattawat Srithongphet, investigation official, Police Station Pattaya, was notified of a robbery which had occurred at the apartment ‘Rinya House’ in Lengkee Dtadt Bua Khao Street, Moo 9 Nongphrue Banglamung Chonburi.

At the crime scene, at the apartment on the 4th floor in room no.402, the officials first found shards of glass on the floor next to the entrance. The thief removed 3 fragments of the windows. The room was chaotic as the thief had moved around belongings and furniture looking for valuables. The current resident of the room, Mr. Mahmut Halil a 54 year-old Englishman said that he had been renting the room alone. He kept all of his valuables in his luggage which he placed next to the bed. In the evening he went out to the entertainment venue in South Pattay, and when he came back he saw that he had been robbed and that all his valuable belongings were gone. The thief must have removed the fragments of the window by the door in order to let his arm in and open the door. Not only had the thief taken valuables from Mr. Halil’s luggage but also from his safe. Mr. Halil therefore immediately requested the staff of the apartment to contact the police. The stolen items include : 3,500 Thai Baht cash, 2 Nokia mobile phones, 2 tourist guide books, 1 plane ticket, Altogether the amount stolen is estimated to be worth 200,000 thb.

It is believed that the thief is a of the resident at the apartment house, knew that Mr. Halil had gone out and then went to rob his room. The police will continue their investigation in more detail, questioning the staff further and examining the window fragments for finger prints.
