Burapa Pattaya Bike Week 2009: The Finale

Burapa Pattaya Bike Week 2009, days 2 and 3, on February 14-15, 2009, was a huge success at the Sports Stadium on Soi Chaiyapreuk 2, off Sukhumvit Road. Over 5000 bikes turned up, making it the best attended Bike Week event ever, as PDN predicted.

Six stages were the venues for the Thai bands, the Western bands having played at the opening night. Lam Morrison, Thailand’s rock legend and emulator of Hendrix and Clapton, was well received, as were Carabao, Thailand’s best loved band, whilst the other Thai bands kept the crowd rockin’ in the interim. Some, of course, only came to see the bikers’ molls, who were admired at a safe distance.

Bike stalls there were aplenty, displayed some of the best choppers, custom jobs and other Harleys around, including the entire range of 09 Harleys; all of which attracted a steady throng of admirers, whilst blissed-out bikers did wheelies and burn-ups round the grounds. Cars, too, played their part, with the American Car Display, whilst other raced about with gay abandon. Other stalls sold custom leather gear, just so everyone could look the part, even if they were only weekend bikers. Booze stalls, needless to say, did a steady trade, as did food stalls.

There was a Wild West Show and stall and a Tattoo contest, to allow multi-imaged bikers to compete with each other, proudly displaying bulging arm and pectoral muscles, abounding with tattoos galore of every shape, size and description. Other displays included paramotors, and a fire show.

Friday saw a minor punch-up between the Warriors MC-Thailand and local Thais, but apart from that there were no other altercations to mar the show. The Saturday Circumnavigation of Pattaya duly took place without incident, the snaking trail spreading out over 2 kms. around town.

Bikers from Malaysia and Singapore, duly attended, covering over than 3,000 kms. to attend the show, making it a truly international event. Burapa Pattaya Bike Week 2009 broke all records for attendance and we can expect even greater things next week.
