Bumrungrad Hospital Gains Prestigious IT Award

Bangkok‘s Bumrungrad International Hospital has been awarded the 2008 AMDIS Award, for excellence and outstanding achievement in applied medical informatics at the 17th annual Physician Computer Connection Symposium July 15-18, 2008, held in Ojai, California.

Thailand, the 5th of August 2008 [Pattaya Daily News]: The award was presented by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS), a non-profit organization representing over 1,800 physician leaders with a high level of interest and responsibility for information technology in their organizations.

The award is for excellence in the field of applied medical informatics and for improving the practice of medicine through successful use of information technology by physicians. AMDIS awards honour individuals and/or organizations who have successfully incorporated IT (Information Technology) systems and computer technology into their medical practice.

In 2007 Bumrungrad formed a partnership with Microsoft to install a state-of-the-art, fully integrated, single solution hospital information system which improves patient care by giving doctors quick and complete access to information within and across different departments . The Amalga HIS system, which was developed in Thailand, has now achieved global recognition for providing international hospitals with a new alternative to improve workflow and patient safety through IT

Over the past year, Bumrungrad International Hospital has treated more than a million patients. About 40% were international medi-care patients, coming to Thailand from virtually all over the world.

Bumrungrad International is Southeast Asia’s premier private hospital and a regional referral centre for advanced care, providing 554 beds, 30 specialty centres, 940 medical specialists and over 800 nurses.

Founded in 1997, the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems is the premier professional organization for physicians interested in and responsible for healthcare IT.
