At 3.00 am. November 9 2008 Pattaya police and a rescue squad rushed to the Cottage Pub on Pattaya Third Road, off Soi Patchtrakul, Moo. 5, North Pattaya where they’d received reports of a shooting.

At the scene they found the body of Mr. Prakit or Lay Seehakaew (22), residing at 337/12 Moo. 7, Nongpring, Nakornsawan lying in a pool of blood. He had been shot in the mouth with the bullet exiting through the back of his head. The rescue team rushed him to Bangkok Pattaya hospital but he died later of his injuries.

It had all started with a bar fight between two women which had taken place in front of many onlookers. One of the women had called her boyfriend to pick her up and when he arrived the other woman’s boyfriend approached him with a gun and shot him.

Police questioned the victim’s girlfriend, Miss Suratchawadee Kumprom (19) ,from Banglamung Chonburi, who was in a frightened state. Her body was covered with wounds and scratches from fighting. She explained that she was having drinks with about 4 of her friends when she suddenly noticed that a woman named “Mint”, her enemy, who she’d had problems with before, was sitting with friends, both female and male, next to her table. There were about 10 of them altogether.

Miss Suratchawadee said Mint came over to her table and challenged her to a fight. They started to yell at each other and the pub owner ordered them outside if they wanted to fight. The two women then started to brawl in front of the pub. People gathered around but no one stopped them.

Miss Suratchawadee, who claimed that she was 3 months pregnant, said she and her friend, Miss Ple, who helped her out , were both badly beaten up by the male friends of Mint’s before the pub guard stopped them.

It was then that Miss Suratchawadee called her boyfriend, Mr. Prakit to pick her up and he subsequently turned up on a motorbike with his friend.

All of sudden, in front of the crowd of onlookers, a man named Jak, Mint’s boyfriend, walked towards Mr. Prakit pulled a gun and fired into his face. They all then got into a car and drove away.

Police gathered evidence and questioned witnesses at the scene. There seemed no doubt that the shooting stemmed from the women’s fighting and they would be trying to catch the criminal as soon as possible.
