PATTAYa – April 2, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 12:30 a.m., a report of someone being injured in a traffic collision was received by police and the rescue officers of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation, who went to the scene to assist the injured.

The accident involved a pickup truck colliding with a motorbike at the curve approaching the V. Jane & House village, Mabprachan country club road, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, officers found the old pickup truck had been modified to be a truck to cut wood. The motorbike that collided with the truck was a blue-and-white Yamaha Feno. Both heavily-damaged vehicles fell down in the bushes on the side of the road.

The seriously injured motorbike driver was a Thai woman about 30 years old. She was lying unconscious in the bush near the motorbike. Officers inspecting her body found that she had a broken left leg and a fractured skull, and there were the scratch wounds all over her body.

The rescue officers performed first aid for her and hurried to send her to Banglamung hospital. They coordinated with the police of Nong Preu police station to inspect the incident.

Officers discovered the pickup truck driver was still a boy, age 14. He told police that before incident occurred, he was driving the pickup truck to deliver wood to Baan Nonghin. On the way back home, he was driving in the direction toward Sukhumvit Road, until he approached a curve in the road which was very dark.

Suddenly from the opposite direction, he saw a Thai woman on a motorbike trying to overtake a van in front of her, and she had cut into his lane. He got frightened and tried to turn his truck to avoid the oncoming motorbike. But his pickup truck collided with the motorbike and lost control, until it fell down to the side of the road and caused the woman to get severely injured.

However, the police didn’t believe the boy. Officers suspect he might have been speeding with the pickup truck, and lost control at the curve, causing it to collide with the motorbike coming from the opposite direction. The police restrained the boy to investigate further. After the injured female victim regains consciousness, the police will question her in detail.

Initially, the police charged the boy with accusations of driving a vehicle without a driving license; for careless driving that caused injury to another person; and driving a modified vehicle. Police then sent him to be prosecuted according to the law.
