Border Police Intercept Marijuana Gang From Laos

The border police have intercepted a gang of marijuana dealers. They tried to smuggled marijuana from Laos into Thailand by boat. They would then sell the marijuana addicted tourists. The officers found 165kg of dried marijuana worth approximately 5 million THB.

BUENG KAN – February 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol.Lt.Col. Suchart Booppajantho (Company Commander of Border Police 244, Bueng Kan) knew that there was going to be operation of dried marijuana into Thailand across the River of Khong River, Ban Huay Dok Mai, Tambon Kokkong, Amphur Mueang, Bueng Kan province, so he commanded Pol.Capt. Rammasoon Boonkhai (Deputy Company Commander), Pol.Capt. Pradoong Wongcharee, who are the head of Reinforced Club of Civil Society Network, mobilised forces of the officers t which consisted of Pol.Lt.Col. Chawalit Phimboon (Deputy Superintendent), Pol.Maj.

Adool Chimthap (Inspector of Bueng Kan province), Pol.Capt. Bantherng Khongchayanan (Inspector of Bueng Kan Marine Police), Major Boonroong Sutthisuwan (Commander in Chief 2103, Royal Thai Army) and the officers of Internal Security Operations Command, Bueng Kan province) to hide and catch the marijuana smuggling gang.

At the riverside of the Khong River the officers found a motor boat that had been driven from Thana village in Laos and was parked on the Khong riverbank. There were 5 people carrying sacks and placing them on the river bank. The officers then showed up and asked to search the sacks but all the suspects jumped into the river and swam to get into the motor boat then drove back to Laos. After inspecting all sacks the officers found 165 dried marijuana briquettes, weighted 165 kg, worth approximately 5 million THB, so they seized all exhibits for evidence.

Pol.Lt.Col. Suchart Booppajantho (Company Commander of Border Police 244, Bueng Kan) said that its high season in Thailand and there were some tourists that liked to smoke marijuana and the gangs take this opportunity to produce large amounts and export to the target markets.
