Pattaya, the 13th of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: Police Captain Somneuk Jantket (Banglamung police investigator) received a report at 5:30am informing that someone has been hurt as a result of an explosion near the Banglamung Police Station in Naklua Soi 1/1. A team of police went to the scene to investigate.

Arriving at the scene police discovered Mr Thiraphong Kroolam [17], lying on the ground with severe lacerations all over his body, primarily on his right leg and left arm. Police rushed him to the near-by Banglamung Hospital for treatment. At the scene officers discovered a large hole had been blown into the pavement with extensive damage done to the phone booth. The windows of the house opposite the scene had been shattered as a result of the explosion and the fly debris. Police collected various fragments that remained of the bomb for evidence.

Police managed to obtain a statement from Thiraphong Kroolam who declared that he had been using the public phone booth when two young men approached on a black and red Honda Click, unknown license plate. They were heading in the direction of the Sukhumvit Road when one of the boys dropped a metallic object on the ground near the scene which violently exploded, breaking the phone booth and injuring Mr. Kroolam.

Police will now deliver the remnants of the bomb to specialists who will determine what type of explosive device was used to cause the damage. Police will attempt to apprehend the two youths involved in the incident, believing that their intention was to disrupt the police or merely test their explosive device before using another in a more dangerous situation.
