PATTAYA – December 11, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 8:30 p.m., police arrested a Thai man for carrying a gun and bullets without a legal permit. The arrest was made by Pol. Sub. Lt. Varakorn Bannasit, Deputy Inspector, section 2, and the police team.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Mai Khamsaen, age 42, from Tambon Baan Leurk, Amphur Photharam, Ratchaburi province. He was with his wife when arrested, and was taken to investigate at Pattaya police station. Police seized the evidence of a .38 calliber Smith & Wesson revolver, and 11 bullets, which they found after a body search.

The suspect was driving a white Isuzu Pajero Sport, with its license registered in Bangkok. Two police stickers of the Thai National Police Bureau were attached to the doors of the vehicle.

The police had been notified about Mr. Mai by the owner of beer bar in Soi Mountain Beach in south Pattaya. The owner complained to police that Mr. Mai always drank liquor in the beer bar until he got drunk, and then showed off that he is a policeman to the owner of beer bar.

Mr. Mai’s drunken and loud behavior made the owner of beer bar shop afraid and wonder whether Mr. Mai is a real policeman or a fake officer. So the owner contacted the police, who stopped Mr. Mai and his wife as they were leaving the bar. After investigating, police discovered that Mr. Mai was not a real police officer as he had claimed, and arrested him after they found the gun and bullets.

After his arrest, Mr. Mai told police that he never showed off or bragged that he is the police. But he actually works as the subordinate for the wife of a high-ranking police inspector in section 7.

Mr. Mai claimed that his gun was given to him by the wife of his boss to carry to protect himself. As for the police stickers on his vehicle, Mr., Mai said he attached them in order to show the police officers that he works closely with the police society.

However, the police still didn’t believe Mr. Mai, since he did not show any registration or permit papers authorizing him to carry the pistol. So the police arrested Mr. Mai to prosecute on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and bringing the weapon to a village or public place without permission.

Police sent Mr. Mai to the investigation officer at Pattaya police station to prosecute further according to the law.
