Pattaya Orphanage Host Big Xmas Party

Our Pattaya Orphanage held what was probably the biggest Christmas party in town, and was certainly where everyone had the most fun, especially the kids. This Christmas day celebration was also a thank you party for those who have helped the orphanage in the past year, so a large cross section of our community was represented.

Pattaya, – Friday 25th December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: – The Christmas day party held in the late afternoon and evening at the Pattaya Orphanage on Sukhumvit in Central Pattaya, was attended by over 300 people. Of course the children had the most fun, which started with a few hours of playing on some great inflatable slides that were brought to their sports ground.

As the sun set, the evening meals appeared, in the form of their favourite Thai foods, plus plenty of ice cold cordials and even ice-creams. But there was much more than this, because every child and even the visitors all received gifts of appreciation, during the early part of the evening.

The children had produced their own program of singing and dancing, which they had been repeatedly rehearsing for many weeks, and then there was a Christmas tree light-up ceremony. The Director of the orphanage Fr. Michael Weera then conducted much of the remainder of the evening’s events, and it is notable that he is the “Vicar General of the Diocese” for the church.

Then came the major prize giving event, again in the form of lucky draw tickets, which saw all of the children receive further prizes, and they were all absolutely delighted by this second round of gift giving.

After attending many of the events and festivals that were put on over the last two days, visitors are eagerly waiting in anticipation for next year’s festivities will be again be a fun filled event. The night went on with more singing and dancing, plus a visit by Pattaya’s City Hall officials, so it was a fun filled night that was enjoyed equally by both the children & adults.

PDN interviewed Khun Toi, who does most of the administration work for the Pattaya Orphanage and asked her how she came to be in her job of caring for Pattaya’s children. She stated that early in her life she was involved with child protection agencies via embassies in Thailand, and other Thai and non-government bodies. She went on to say, – My life changed when I met the Charismatic Father Ray Brennan many years ago, and I knew that helping him in his work with children was right for me.”

Khun Toi said that with e world recession, many people and big companies now were donating goods & services to the Pattaya Orphanage, which has in excess of 170, ranging from babies to teenagers. She went on to say, – “Donations come from both overseas and locally, but we also welcome volunteers who can help out at the Pattaya Orphanage with the day-by-day care of our children.”

It is most distressing to learn that the Pattaya Orphanage receives 2 – 3 abandoned babies each week, and many of these are the result of young teenage girls becoming pregnant. In line with this problem, the orphanage will soon have mobile educational vans, that will go to the poorer areas in the Pattaya region and educate both the parents & teenagers of these dangers, and also the problems associated with pedophiles and other such undesirable people.
