Pattaya, the 17th of March 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 1:30pm, police Lieutenant Colonel Klitsakorn Thongin (Pattaya Police Deputy Superintendent) was notified of a robbery involving a foreigner near the Dusit Thani Resort on Pattaya-Naklua Road. The report stated that a number of local residents had been successful in apprehending one of the two Thai youths involved in the crime. A team of police were subsequently dispatched to the scene to investigate further.

At the scene, officers were confronted by Mr. Omer Baillieu [60] a Belgian national. Mr. Baillieu explained to police that he had been waiting to purchase some items at the nearby 7-Eleven when his bag was snatched from him by a Thai youth. He stated that immediately following the theft he asked the local residents in front of the store for assistance, subsequently the offender’s accomplice was captured by a motorbike taxi driver. The main culprit who was in possession of the stolen bag managed to escape. Mr. Baillieu states that along with several valuable items the bag contained over 10,000 baht in cash.

Police interrogated Mr. Mai (alias) [17], who stated that he had planned the robbery with the other man, but stated that he did not know his name, as they had only become friends that day. Investigating officers are reluctant to believe the mans story, arresting him for further interrogation back at the station.
