Belgian Man Accidentally Falls To His death In Pattaya

A Belgian man who climbed up onto a roof to repair it accidentally fell through due to his size. He suffered a broken neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

PATTAYA – September 18, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 09.30 am Pol.Lt.Auttharod Krongrad-inspector of Pattaya police station- was notified that a foreigner had fallen from a roof and had died instantly at the Royal Star Guesthouse, Jomtien. After notification the police officers and Sawang Borriboon rescue team immediately rushed to the scene.


At the scene a 3 floors commercial building which had an optical shop on the lower floor and on the upper floors were rooms for rent. In one of the rooms the officers found the body of Mr John Hoemlund a 64 year old from Belgium lying down on the floor near a bed. He had suffered a broken neck and a severe wound to his right leg. Also Mrs.Wanida Hoemlund aged 23 his wife was crying at his side.

Upon questioning Mrs.Wanida she told police that his husband was a construction contractor went to see Mr Bell a 62 year old Italian to help in order to help him with the contractors who were repairing the roof. Mr John then decided to climb up on the roof and due to his size the roof gave way and he fell to his death.


Upon inspecting the police officers recorded the incident before sending the body to the forensic office at the police hospital before notifying the embassy.
