International, the 10th of September 2010: Following clear-the-air talks with England boss Fabio Capello, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star spoke of his confidence that if form permitted he would once again be picked to represent his nation in upcoming matches.

Beckham’s international career looked to be over after Capello last month made remarks stipulating that 35-year-old may be too old to represent his nation in his specialist midfield role.

Insisting that he has no plans to retire or take a backseat ride, Beckham is believed to have held talks with Capello over his recent comments, leaving discussions confident that he will be picked if his form warranted selection.

“If you’re performing and you’re playing well then you have a chance of being in the squad. The thing about my situation now is just getting back on the field and getting back fit. Then, what happens after that, we’ll see,” said the midfielder.

Capello came under fire in Britain when he announced that he was no longer interested in picking Beckham. Largely he was derided over the timing of his comments, which came hours after Beckham announced he was fit to resume playing for LA Galaxy and excitedly professed his unwavering dedication to England’s future ambitions.

“Obviously it was a surprise at the time but I spoke to him shortly after that and he explained everything to me and it was brushed under the carpet, so to speak,” Beckham said. “He’s always supported me. He’s always looked after me in many ways and I’ve got the utmost respect for him.”

Beckham’s much anticipated return for Galaxy still remains a secret, with talk emanating that he hoped to play this weekend, although one more week out of action is widely thought to be the most likely option for the international footballing icon.
