Bangsean, March 15, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]: 15:30 pm, there was chaos because more than 100 people who had swam in the sea suffered skin irritations and burns to their skin when they came out of the water. The swimmers came out of the water covered in black oil stains. Rescuers of Tri Khunnatham foundation immediately helped them by using thinners, turpentine and soapy water to clean them. For the people who got allergic reactions the rescuers sent them to Praphasri Burapha university hospital, most of the victims were small children, and teenagers who were relaxing at the beach.

From checking the fuel oil it was condensed and sticky, the oil slick stretched along the beach for more than 2.5 km. They expected that the cause of the oil spill might be from a fishing boat that illegally dumped old oil fuel into the sea which was moved to the shore by the wind and waves.

Paitoon Tuaijarern, a child tourist said that he got covered in oil after going swimming in the sea. The oil was making his skin itchy and felt like it was burning. Also his eyes were burning and his nose and throat because of the strong scent.

Mr.Natthaphon Sookpob, a rescuer said that the slick had started to come ashore around 2pm because that’s when he was getting swimmers coming to him with skin complaints where he would use thinner and turpentine to wipe the oil off the victims.

Initially, the municipality of Sansuk, announced via radio to the tourists to get out of the water immediately for the fear that it would cause harm to them, an then coordinated with related agencies to inspect and watch it closely.
