Banglamung officials get strict with water splashing

Banglamung sheriff chaired a meeting to discuss the new rules of prohibition: Do not use powder – Do not use any high pressure squirt guns – Do not sell and drink alcoholic beverages in the area of Songkran festival.

PATTAYA – Recently [Pattaya Daily News]; at a community hall in Banglamung, a monthly meeting was held where the heads of the Local Government Organizations, sub district headmen and village headmen had met and Mr. Chakhorn Kanjanawatta (Banglamung sheriff) chaired the meeting.

 

Mr. Chakhorn (Banglamung sheriff) revealed that this year’s Songkran festival the splashing of water is to be returned to the original Thai tradition in order to promote tourism. People should be dressed properly and shouldn’t wear clothes that are too revealing. The Council of Ministers has campaigned for people to wear flowery shirts and to prohibit the selling and drinking of alcoholic beverages at Songkran festival activities. They also want to stop people using high powered water guns which can cause eye injuries and the use of powder and ice. They want people only to use bowls (water dippers) as originally used in Thai culture.

Mr. Chakhorn (Banglamung sheriff) also asks the officials to define the specific time limit for splashing water in order to prevent traffic problems and crimes that may take place at night. Moreover, Banglamung sheriff also assigns the representatives from various sectors to further publicise and ask for people’s cooperation about the practice of splashing water in the original Thai tradition.
