Bangkok Viphavadee-Rangsit Road-Racing Police Nab 100 Teen Riders & 78 Bikes

Viphavadee police station and Kookot police station officers arrested teenage motorbike riders who were using the Viphavadee-Rangsit public road for street racing.

BANGKOK – June 3, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol. Lt. Col. Sanong Saengmanee, traffic inspector, controller of Viphavadee-Rangsit traffic/special route with more than 30 officers, mobilized forces to blockade teenage motorbike riders at the u-turn point in front of the warehouse entrance of Donmuang Airport.

The police arrested 106 motorbike riders, 64 juveniles; 51 male, 13 female and 42 adults; 34 male, 8 female and seized 78 motorbikes. Pol. Lt. Col. Sanong said that they have been receiving complaints by the locals about teenagers using the Viphavadee-Rangsit road for high speed motorbike racing.

 

The police set up a plan to arrest the riders by parking 16 police cars at the warehouse of Donmuang airport. When the Kookot police informed that the group of teenage motorbike riders were at Esso petrol pump near Thanyarak Institute, Phaholyothin road and were driving near, the police blocked their path at Jae Leng shop and blocked their escape route from behind at the entrance to the Donmuang warehouse.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sanong said during the arrest, several motorbike riders tried to escape in many directions such as riding up the toll way, some left their motorbike and ran away, some jumped into the canal beside the warehouse. The police manage to arrest all of them and seized all the motorbikes. The age of motorbike riders are between 14-28 years old.

The adults are charged with reckless riding and were detrained to be prosecuted according to the law. For the juveniles, the police will coordinated with the parents and all the seized motorbikes will be inspected whether it was stolen or not.
