Police Colonel, Nopadol Wongnom, who had received an emergency call and his team, accompanied by the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Team, an ambulance and a fire truck, arrived At Taweesin goldsmith’s shop, 65/2, moo.10 to find a Thai-Chinese man, Mr. Chern, swaying unsteadily while shouting to onlookers. Mr. Chern (30) was apparently suffering from advanced paranoia, convinced that people were out to kill him.

After an agonising 40 minutes, Mr. Chern was eventually brought to safety. He was shaking and had dry lips, apparently suffering the ill effects of drugs. In his paranoia, he asked nearby reporters to take a video and photos of him as he thought the police might kill him.

Mr. Chern was taken to the police station after he refused to go to the hospital. When questioned, he responded indistinctly that he was accompanying his friend, a tourist guide, from Bangkok to stay in Pattaya for two days.

On the night the incident occurred, his friend had apparently taken him to a pub in North Pattaya and given him many tablets of Ya-E. However, he had never taken Ya-E before and was totally unused to its effects. His first reaction was paranoia, being convinced somebody was trying to kill him. He ran madly all the way from North to South Pattaya, into a 7-11 shop and asked the staff to call his friend to help him, but no one was prepared to help.

Feeling desperate, he then climbed up to the roof-deck of the Fourth Floor of the building and ran across the roofs of several shops stopping at Taweesin gold shop. Luckily someone called the police. Mr. Chern, the victim of Ya-E, will be sent back to Bangkok after he feels better.
